This month WEDC will share what happened in Wall in October.
“Beef to school”
The most exciting project that happened this month was: “Beef to School”. What is that?
The Wall School Lunch Program, Wall Meat Processing, the Wall FFA, and the Ag Committee of the Wall Economic Development have been working together to become the first ones in South Dakota to utilize locally raised BEEF in their school lunch program.
For this pilot program the Wall School Food Service Director Lynn Dunker indicated our school used approximately 1,240 lbs. of ground beef, 960 patties, and 35 lbs. of cubed beef a semester. These amounts will require between six and seven heads of cattle. Local ranchers will be donating meat to the Wall Meat Plant where Wall Meat Processing will be contributing to the cost of processing in return. The Wall School Board has given enthusiastic support of locally raised BEEF being served to children of the Wall School.
The start date of this Pilot Project will be the January of 2019.
Wall High School Homecoming Week
The first week of October the Wall Community celebrated WHS Homecoming. Homecoming week was filled with exciting activities including: pep rallies, a Coronation ceremony, a bonfire, volleyball games, homecoming variety show, a parade, a community appreciation supper, and of course the Homecoming football game.
Wall in the Fall
On October 14th we had a successful Wall in the Fall event. It was a family oriented day with lots of fun activities and laughter.
Creative Community Concepts were the stars of this event.
They set up a very attractive booth with fun activities for kids.
We appreciate everyone’s help and those who participated and helped us make it happen.
Zombie Walk
We finished last month with the Zombie Walk to benefit the local Food Pantry. It was a fun and warming walk.
